In Philistia the ark proves no trophy but a terror. Set beside their god Dagon, the idol is found fallen and then broken before it, and the LORD strikes the cities of Ashdod, Gath, and Ekron with tumors and panic. The Philistines realize the hand of the God of Israel is heavy upon them and seek to be rid of the ark.
