Samuel privately anoints Saul with oil, foretells confirming signs, and tells him the Spirit of God will rush upon him so that he is turned into another man. At Mizpah Saul is publicly chosen by lot but is found hiding among the baggage; brought out, he stands head and shoulders above all. Most shout, “Long live the king,” though some worthless men despise him.
