1 Kings 13

A man of God from Judah cries out against Jeroboam’s altar at Bethel, foretelling its destruction and giving a sign; Jeroboam’s hand withers and is restored at the prophet’s prayer, yet the king does not repent. The man of God, forbidden to eat or return by the way he came, is deceived by an old prophet into disobeying and is killed by a lion — a sober warning that God’s word must be obeyed even against a seemingly pious lie.
