1 Kings study chapter

1 Kings 11

c. 940 BCSolomon’s foreign wives turn his heart to idols, and the LORD announces He will tear the kingdom away.

Solomon’s downfall is his heart. He loves many foreign wives, who “turned away his heart after other gods,” and he builds high places for their idols, breaking the first commandment. The LORD, angry, announces that He will tear the kingdom from Solomon’s son, leaving one tribe for David’s sake, and raises up adversaries — Hadad, Rezon, and especially Jeroboam, to whom a prophet promises ten tribes.
