1 Corinthians study chapter

1 Corinthians 14

c. AD 55Prophecy is to be preferred over tongues, and all worship must be orderly and build up the church.

Paul urges the Corinthians to pursue love and to earnestly desire the gifts that build up the church, especially prophecy over uninterpreted tongues, since worship should edify. He calls for order: in the gathering, everything is to be done “for building up,” with tongues interpreted and prophecies weighed, in an orderly way, “for God is not a God of confusion but of peace.” All things are to be done “decently and in order.”
