Recognizing Ornan’s threshing floor as the site for God’s house, David makes vast preparations — stockpiling iron, bronze, cedar, and stone, and gathering craftsmen — because his son Solomon is young and the task is great. He charges Solomon to build the temple, reminding him that God denied David the privilege because he was a man of war, and urging him to be strong and to keep the Law so that he may prosper. He commands the leaders of Israel to help.
