In the fifth vision Zechariah sees a golden lampstand with a bowl and seven lamps, flanked by two olive trees that supply it with oil. The meaning is given as a word to Zerubbabel, who must complete the temple against great obstacles: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.” The great mountain of difficulty will become a plain, Zerubbabel’s hands will finish what they began, and none should “despise the day of small things.” The two olive trees are the two anointed ones (the priest and the governor) who serve the Lord of all the earth.
