Titus study chapter

Titus 2

c. AD 64Sound doctrine for every group in the church, grounded in the grace of God that trains us to godliness as we await Christ’s appearing.

Titus is to “teach what accords with sound doctrine,” giving practical instruction to each group. Older men are to be sober and sound; older women reverent and teachers of good, so they can train younger women to love their husbands and children and be self-controlled and pure “that the word of God may not be reviled.” Younger men are to be self-controlled, and Titus himself “a model of good works” with integrity and sound speech. Slaves are to be faithful and trustworthy, so that “in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.” All of this rests on the gospel: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.”
