Nehemiah study chapter

Nehemiah 4

445 BCRidicule and threats are met with prayer and a guard, and the builders work with weapons at hand.

As the wall rises, Sanballat and Tobiah escalate from mockery to a plot to attack the city and stop the work. Nehemiah responds with prayer and practical wisdom: he sets a guard day and night, arms the workers, and stations families to defend the exposed places, encouraging them, “Do not be afraid... remember the Lord, who is great and awesome.” Half the men build while half stand guard, and each labors with a tool in one hand and a weapon in the other.
