Malachi 4

The book — and the Old Testament — closes with the day of the LORD. “Behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven,” when the arrogant and evildoers will be stubble. But “for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings,” and the righteous will go out leaping like calves from the stall. God calls His people to remember the law of Moses, and then gives the final promise: “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes. And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers.” With this forward-looking promise of a forerunner, the old covenant Scriptures end, and the stage is set for the coming of John the Baptist and the Lord Jesus Christ.
