While Caesar Augustus’s census brings Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, Jesus is born and laid in a manger. Angels announce “good news of great joy” to shepherds, who come and worship. On the eighth day He is circumcised, and when presented in the temple, the devout Simeon takes Him and blesses God for the salvation and “light for the Gentiles” he has seen, and the prophetess Anna gives thanks. At twelve, Jesus is found in the temple among the teachers, “in my Father’s house,” and grows in wisdom and favor.
