Judges study chapter

Judges 6

c. 1191 BCUnder Midianite oppression, Gideon is called to tear down Baal’s altar and, doubting, asks for the sign of the fleece.

Israel again does evil and is ravaged for seven years by Midianite raiders. The LORD sends a prophet, then His angel calls Gideon — threshing wheat in secret out of fear — “mighty man of valor.” Commanded to tear down his father’s altar to Baal, Gideon obeys by night; then, gathering an army, he twice tests God with a fleece, seeking assurance that God will save Israel by his hand.
