The appendix turns from national deliverance to private corruption. Micah of Ephraim confesses stealing silver from his mother, who then dedicates it to make an idol, and Micah fills his house with images and an unauthorized priesthood. When a wandering Levite arrives, Micah hires him as his personal priest, sure the LORD will now prosper him.
