John study chapter

John 13

c. AD 30At the last supper Jesus washes the disciples’ feet and gives the new commandment to love one another.

The Book of Glory opens as Jesus, knowing His hour has come and loving His own “to the end,” rises from supper to wash the disciples’ feet, giving them an example of humble, serving love. He foretells His betrayal, and Judas goes out into the night. Then Jesus gives the new commandment: “Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples.” He foretells Peter’s threefold denial.
