Joel 2

Joel sounds the alarm as the day of the LORD approaches like a great and terrible army, darkening the sky and devouring like fire — the locusts intensified into a picture of divine judgment. But the heart of the chapter is God’s gracious appeal: “Return to me with all your heart... rend your hearts and not your garments,” for He is “gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love.” God then answers His repentant people with promises: to restore the years the locust has eaten, to satisfy them with plenty, and — most wonderfully — “I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,” so that all who call on His name will be saved.
