Turning from his friends to God, Job laments the hard, fleeting misery of human life, his sleepless nights and days without hope. In bold, aching honesty he cries out directly to God, asking why He watches man so closely and makes him a target, and pleads for God to pardon him and let him alone before he dies. His complaint is anguished but still addressed to God.
