James 4

The quarrels and conflicts among them arise from their own passions and cravings. “You do not have, because you do not ask,” and when they ask, they ask wrongly, to spend on their passions. “Friendship with the world is enmity with God,” and “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” He calls them to mourn over sin, to “humble yourselves before the Lord,” and not to speak evil of or judge one another. Finally he rebukes those who boastfully plan their business “tomorrow” as if their lives were their own: “you do not know what tomorrow will bring... you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” Instead, “you ought to say, ’If the Lord wills.’”
