An oracle against Egypt, whose idols tremble and whose wisdom fails as the LORD stirs internal strife and hands them over to a hard master, drying up the Nile. Yet the chapter turns to a stunning promise of grace: Egypt will come to know the LORD, an altar will stand in its midst, and “Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance” will worship together.
