Isaiah 10

c. 732 BCWoe to Assyria, the rod of God’s anger, and the promise that a remnant of Israel will return.

Woe falls on unjust lawmakers, and then on Assyria itself: though God uses it as the rod of His anger, Assyria arrogantly claims the victory as its own, so the LORD will punish its pride and burn its glory. Yet “a remnant will return” to the mighty God, and God’s people are told not to fear the Assyrian, whose yoke will be broken.
