- Matthew 1:12-13; Luke 3:27 - Zerubbabel in the genealogy of Jesus, the promised Son of David.
Cross-Testament Connections
Haggai’s promises point forward to Christ:
- The greater glory: The latter glory surpassing the former is fulfilled in Christ, “greater than the temple,” and in His people as God’s temple (Haggai 2:9; Matthew 12:6; Ephesians 2:21-22).
- Peace in God’s house: God’s promise of peace is fulfilled in Christ, “our peace,” who reconciles His people to God (Haggai 2:9; Ephesians 2:14).
- The signet ring: The restoration of Zerubbabel as God’s signet preserves the messianic line fulfilled in Jesus (Haggai 2:23; Matthew 1:12).
- The unshakable kingdom: God’s shaking of heaven and earth points to the kingdom believers receive in Christ that cannot be shaken (Haggai 2:6; Hebrews 12:26-28).
