Amos 1

Amos opens like a roll of thunder — “The LORD roars from Zion” — and pronounces judgment on Israel’s neighbors, each introduced with the refrain “For three transgressions... and for four, I will not revoke the punishment.” Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, and Edom are condemned for their brutality, slave-trading, broken treaties, and pitiless violence. God holds the nations accountable for their cruelty, showing that His moral rule extends over all the earth.
