2 Thessalonians 1

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy greet the church and give thanks that their faith is “growing abundantly” and their love increasing, even amid “persecutions and... afflictions.” This steadfastness, Paul says, is “evidence of the righteous judgment of God,” who counts them worthy of His kingdom for which they suffer. God is just, and He “will repay with affliction those who afflict you,” granting relief to the afflicted “when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,” inflicting vengeance on those who reject the gospel with “eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord,” but coming “to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed.” Paul prays that God would make them worthy of His calling.
