2 Samuel 9

c. 995 BCDavid shows covenant kindness to Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s crippled son.

Remembering his covenant with Jonathan, David asks whether any of Saul’s house remains to whom he may show kindness. He finds Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s son, lame in both feet, and restores to him all Saul’s land and a permanent place at the king’s table. It is a picture of grace: an heir of the fallen house, unable to help himself, seated as a son with the king.
