Chapter 1

Grow in Grace and Knowledge

God’s divine power has granted everything needed for life and godliness, so believers are to make every effort to grow in Christian virtue and confirm their calling, confident in the eyewitness testimony to Christ’s majesty and the God-given prophetic word.

  • Chapter 1 (c. AD 66): God grants all things for godliness; grow in Christian virtue, confirmed by eyewitness testimony and the sure prophetic word.

Chapter 2

The Doom of False Teachers

A blistering exposure of the false teachers who bring destructive heresies, exploit and seduce believers with greed and sensuality, and whose certain judgment is illustrated by the fallen angels, the flood, Sodom, and Balaam.

  • Chapter 2 (c. AD 66): False teachers bring destructive heresies and sensuality, but their judgment is certain, as past judgments show.

Chapter 3

The Day of the Lord

Against the scoffers who mock the promise of Christ’s coming, Peter affirms that the day of the Lord will surely come, that God’s patience grants time for repentance, and that believers, awaiting new heavens and a new earth, should be diligent and grow in grace.

  • Chapter 3 (c. AD 66): The day of the Lord will surely come; God is patient, so live holy lives awaiting new heavens and a new earth.
