Josiah keeps a Passover of extraordinary scale and care, providing thousands of animals for the people and restoring the service exactly according to the word of Moses and the order of David, so that “no Passover like it had been kept in Israel since the days of Samuel.” Later, against a warning from God’s mouth, Josiah goes out to fight Pharaoh Neco at Megiddo and is mortally wounded, and all Judah, with Jeremiah, mourns the last good king.
