When Rehoboam grows strong, he abandons the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him. As discipline, God sends Shishak of Egypt, who plunders the temple and palace treasures. But when the king and princes humble themselves and confess “the LORD is righteous,” God grants some deliverance, sparing them from destruction, though Judah is left as Egypt’s servant, learning the difference between serving God and serving the nations.
