1 Samuel 20

c. 1019 BCJonathan confirms Saul’s murderous intent and renews his covenant of loyal friendship with David.

David and Jonathan test Saul’s intentions at the new-moon feast, and Saul’s fury — even hurling a spear at his own son — confirms his settled purpose to kill David. By a prearranged signal with arrows, Jonathan warns David to flee, and the two friends part in tears, renewing their covenant that the LORD will be between them and their descendants forever.
