1 Samuel study chapter

1 Samuel 17

c. 1025 BCDavid kills the giant Goliath with a sling and a stone in the name of the LORD.

The Philistine champion Goliath, a giant over nine feet tall, defies Israel’s army for forty days, and no one dares fight him. David, arriving with provisions for his brothers, is indignant that this uncircumcised Philistine should defy the armies of the living God. Refusing armor, he goes out with a sling and five stones in the LORD’s name, declares “the battle is the LORD’s,” and fells the giant with a single stone, then cuts off his head.
