1 Peter 4

Since Christ suffered in the flesh, believers are to “arm yourselves with the same way of thinking,” done with sin and living “for the will of God,” no longer in the passions of their former life, though the world maligns them for it — but they will give account to God who judges all. “The end of all things is at hand,” so they are to be self-controlled, prayerful, and above all loving, for “love covers a multitude of sins,” showing hospitality and using their gifts to serve one another “as good stewards of God’s varied grace,” so that “in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.” They are not to “be surprised at the fiery trial... as though something strange were happening,” but to “rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings,” for “if you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed.” Let those who suffer as Christians glorify God and “entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.”
