1 John 4

Because many false prophets have gone out, believers must “test the spirits”: “every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,” and every spirit that does not is “the spirit of the antichrist.” The one who knows God overcomes them, “for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” Then John dwells on love: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God... God is love.” “In this the love of God was made manifest... that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” Therefore “we also ought to love one another,” and by such love God abides in us and His love is perfected, casting out fear. “We love because he first loved us,” and “whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
