1 John 2

John writes so that they “may not sin,” but “if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous,” who “is the propitiation for our sins.” Assurance that we know Him comes through keeping His commandments; “whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected.” The one who claims to be in the light while hating his brother is still in darkness. John addresses children, fathers, and young men, and warns, “Do not love the world,” for “the world is passing away... but whoever does the will of God abides forever.” He warns of “antichrists” who have gone out from the church, denying “that Jesus is the Christ,” and urges them to let what they heard “from the beginning” abide in them, and to abide in Christ, confident at His coming.
