More of Judah’s clans are recorded, along with the tribe of Simeon settled within Judah’s territory. Amid the names appears the brief, striking prayer of Jabez, who asked God to bless him, enlarge his border, and keep him from harm, “and God granted what he asked” — a reminder that God hears the individual within the multitude.
